Become part of an internationally leading research laboratory and work on projects ranging from the dating of world-famous archaeological finds to climate and environmental research. The Laboratory for Ion Beam Physics (LIP) is part of the Department of Physics at ETH Zürich and is one of the world's leading laboratories in the field of Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) and ion beam physics applications. Our accelerators are used, among other things, for high-precision radiocarbon dating. Among the most famous investigations of our laboratory are the datings of the Turin Shroud and the Ötzi glacier mummy («Ötzi»). Furthermore, we develop and build innovative instruments for the ultra-sensitive analysis of rare nuclides and work together with researchers from archaeology, environmental and climate research, geosciences, and numerous other disciplines.
