With around 1400 employees, Justizvollzug und Wiedereingliederung (JuWe) is the largest office within the Direktion der Justiz und des Innern and is responsible for the execution of sentences and measures as well as for the implementation of various types of detention. Our employees from around 40 professions support and promote the reintegration of convicted people and are actively and progressively committed to a safe and just society.

The Vollzugseinrichtungen Zürich (VEZ) are one of eight main departments of JuWe. They comprise four facilities with a total of 314 detention places and around 230 employees. The VEZ house admitted persons in closed and open detention, semi-liberty, as well as administrative detention under foreign law. The VEZ ensure the accommodation, care, and employment of the admitted persons, thereby contributing to the prevention of recidivism and to public safety.

The Gefängnis Affoltern am Albis with 65 detention places and around 35 employees specializes in the execution of sentences or residual sentences of no more than 18 months. In addition to the concept of group detention, which aims at increased personal responsibility of the inmates, a level-appropriate school education (BiSt) is offered.

To reinforce our team, we are looking for a committed, reliable, and responsible personality as of 1 December 2026.

This is your field of activity ###

• You support the Head of Care in fulfilling tasks and assume personnel leadership of the guards/caregivers in shift operations during your service time
• You lead your team taking into account the principles of the VEZ, organize and lead team meetings, and conduct employee appraisals as well as qualifications within the framework of target agreements
• You promote team development and the professional development of the guards/caregivers and ensure a meaningful delegation of tasks within the team
• Together with your team, you ensure an orderly daily routine and guarantee the care of the admitted persons in compliance with all security regulations, processes, and instructions
• You recognize critical situations early, initiate appropriate measures, and act consistently and in a de-escalating manner even in demanding situations
• During your service time, you are the contact person for the guards/caregivers and assume the on-call management function if required
• You are responsible for carrying out security checks such as cell checks, body searches, and package checks
• You prepare reports, conduct hearings, and initiate disciplinary measures within the scope of your competencies
• You ensure interdisciplinary exchange between care, detention management, and other specialist departments of the Gefängnis Affoltern am Albis
• You maintain regular exchange with the management team as well as with the detention management and support cross-departmental issues and projects

This is what you bring with you ###

• You can demonstrate a completed vocational training EFZ and are willing to attend further training such as SKJV basic training for correctional facility specialists
• You are a team-oriented, empathetic, and precise personality with an independent and solution-oriented way of working
• You express yourself well in written and spoken German, possess knowledge of a second language (Eng./Fr./It.), and are proficient with the MS Office suite
• You find it easy to resolve difficult situations in a de-escalating and consistent manner
• You are mentally and physically resilient and changing working hours are compatible with other obligations (shift operation; Sundays and public holidays)
• You are at least 25 years old and have an unblemished reputation (no entries in the criminal record and in the debt collection register)
