Our Data & Storage Platforms department with over 25 employees is responsible, in close cooperation with our stakeholders, for the further development and operation of the business-critical data and storage infrastructure. In doing so, we rely on state-of-the-art technologies such as Oracle Exadata, PostgreSQL and MS SQL to ensure a reliable, innovative and scalable data and storage landscape.

In your role as a Platform Engineer with a focus on PostgreSQL, you will contribute to the further development, automation and ensuring of the resilience and performance of our Postgres platform. In doing so, you will actively help shape our Postgres services and consistently develop them towards a highly automated Database-as-a-Service platform.

Your tasks

• Responsibility for the engineering, operation and further development of our central PostgreSQL platform with a focus on Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server
• Analyzing and optimizing the existing PostgreSQL landscape with regard to performance, scalability, availability and security
• Designing and implementing automation solutions for provisioning, configuration, scaling, monitoring, backup and recovery
• Further developing the database platform using Infrastructure-as-Code and automation technologies such as Terraform in close cooperation with the responsible Azure teams
• Integrating database services into our API and automation landscape and helping to shape our Database-as-a-Service services
• Implementing best practices for performance tuning, security, high availability, backup and disaster recovery
• Handling incidents and requests as part of operational activities as well as performing regular on-call service

Your profile

• Completed studies (Uni/FH/HF) in computer science or an equivalent education with corresponding practical experience
• Several years of experience in the engineering and operation of PostgreSQL databases in large and complex environments
• Sound knowledge of PostgreSQL regarding administration, performance tuning, security, backup & recovery, high availability and lifecycle management
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, especially with Flexible Server, is an advantage
• Proven experience in the automation of database and infrastructure solutions, for example with Terraform and CI/CD pipeline
• High affinity for data and platform technologies as well as a good understanding of the requirements of internal stakeholders such as application development or Data & Analytics
• Very good German and good English skills (at least level B2)
