Machine Learning Engineer for climate and weather forecasting (m/f)

Zurich-Airport or Locarno (and home office) | 80-100% Your contribution <br /> • Promote innovation by evaluating and developing prototypes of new Machine Learning and MLOps technologies through practical proofs of concept • Lead the integration and commissioning of a cutting-edge weather forecasting system based on Machine Learning at MeteoSvizzera and within the scope of the Digital Europe Programme (DEP) -- Destination Earth. Prepare Anemoi-based models for production and perform their benchmarking on the main EuroHPC supercomputing centers • Co-develop new forecasting approaches in collaboration with Data Scientists, with MeteoSvizzera meteorologists and with partner institutions throughout Europe • Design and develop Machine Learning tools, services and workflows to support reliable and production-ready forecasting systems in cloud and high-performance computing (HPC) environments, such as the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) <br /> What distinguishes you <br /> • University degree (at least ISCED level 7) in computer science, applied mathematics, Data Science or a related field • Experience with MLOps, containerization technologies, cloud platforms and HPC environments, for example Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform and SLURM • Excellent programming skills in Python and familiarity with the PyTorch Machine Learning framework • Motivated personality, endowed with a creative spirit and oriented towards problem-solving, as well as solid communication skills • Active knowledge of an official language, passive knowledge of a second official language and excellent knowledge of the English language <br /> In summary As a Machine Learning Engineer (m/f) for meteorological and climatic applications, you will contribute to the commissioning throughout Europe of cutting-edge weather forecasting models, develop new ML and MLOps approaches through practical prototypes and actively participate in defining the next generation of weather forecasting.
