Social Worker / Nursing Specialist Emergency Shelter for Families

With around 2400 employees, the Sozialdepartement of the Stadt Zürich works every day for a social Zürich. And we contribute to a high quality of life in the neighborhoods.

The emergency shelter for families is a supervised collective accommodation for families threatened by homelessness. The offering serves the accommodation of families in emergencies. The goal is to stabilize the family situation and to promote the acquisition of competence in the life areas important for the search for housing, so that a transition into the free housing market becomes possible again.

For our team at the location Inselhofstrasse 1 in 8008 Zürich, we are looking for a motivated personality as of 01.12.2026 or by arrangement.

Tasks

• You admit new families, care for them, and accompany them according to their needs and individually.
• You support families of different cultural and linguistic origins in the search for a sustainable housing solution.
• You promote successful coexistence in the emergency shelter, ensure orderly operations, and intervene in conflicts.
• You work together with other involved agencies and promote cooperation in the support network.
• You plan and document the support of the families in the case management system.
• You take on co-responsibility for organizational and operational tasks at the locations.

Profile

• Completed training in Social Work, Social Pedagogy, or as a Nursing Specialist HF/FH
• Willingness to work shifts until 19:00 as well as one weekend shift per month (duty rosters are created two months in advance)
• High level of independence as well as the willingness to manage the location independently; the place of assignment may change and assignments at other locations are possible
• Experience in working with families and/or in the psychosocial field is an advantage
• Joy in working with people and professional handling of different expectations and life realities
• Ability to establish sustainable professional relationships and to consciously balance closeness and distance
