The Underwriter will, under direction of assigned manager and in accordance with established procedures: underwrite and maintain/service profitable new and renewal business exercising resilient judgment based on comprehensive knowledge of policy form terms and conditions and coverage intent; increase our market share, our visibility, and solidify our position as a leader in the marketplace by participating in marketing activities; be dedicated to maximizing the efficiency of the group, maintaining morale, and providing quality service to internal and external customers.
This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland-s Fitness and Probity regime.
What you-ll be doing
What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Analyze, evaluate, and underwrite highly complex and/or high-volume Reinsurance risks, and develop customized coverage solutions.
- Develop innovative and sophisticated contract structures to meet specific client requirements for large and specialty risks. Preparation and documentation of quotes and contract documents. Responsibility for maintaining and ensuring the quality of contract documents, as well as compliance with all standards, including wording
- Establishing, maintaining, and expanding key client and broker relationships, in our core European markets, at the decision-maker level, as well as for key brokers and major clients; leading negotiations in important client meetings; determining terms and contract details to ensure the sustainable and strategic maintenance of business partnerships
- Actively shaping new and strategic business opportunities. Responsibility for the strategic management of the client portfolio with a focus on sustainable profitability and risk diversification, as well as new client business. Development of concepts to optimize the business and risk structure.
- Proactive interface management (Claims, Operations, and Risk Consulting) as well as active management of projects (including cross-functional and international ones)
- Submitting proposals for new, even complex, product solutions, as well as collaborating on and supporting further development or changes within the area of responsibility, including internationally. Depending on the line of business, this may also include in-house product development
You will report to Head of Property Facultative International Re.
What you-ll bring
We-re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Several years of professional experience in underwriting within the (international) commercial (Re-)insurance sector, specifically in the property line, or comparable experience at a brokerage firm or in the industry. Expertise in large commercial risks and specialty risks and facultative reinsurance. Extensive experience in placing international programs. Very good knowledge of policy wording, product development, and insurance law
- Fluent command of English; Highly proficient working command of German (due to the intensive cooperation with German colleagues and clients); French or any additional European language is a plus
- Outstanding skills in managing an underwriting portfolio, including pricing, calculation, and risk assessment and evaluation, to strategically steer the underwriting portfolio
- Excellent sales and commercial acumen with a passion for growing the insurance business. Outstanding aptitude for numbers and analytical skills to drive the sustainable growth of the reinsurance business
- Extensive experience working with major industrial clients. Highly resilient and professional in establishing, expanding, and maintaining long-term, strategic client relationships. Excellent negotiation skills, outstanding relationship management, and very persuasive communication skills for building sustainable partnerships, including in an international setting.
- Outstanding ability to analyze complex tasks in a structured manner, set priorities, and efficiently manage work processes.
- Exceptional teamwork skills to collaborate effectively in international, multicultural, and virtual teams and develop sustainable solutions.
