Introductory text
At ETH Zürich, over 20'000 students study at Bachelor and Master levels or are enrolled as auditors. The teaching operations behind this are managed via a wide application landscape. The Digital Teaching Operations team of the Academic Services department is responsible for the support, maintenance, conception, configuration, and further development of the digital teaching operations landscape.

For the strategic project «Digital Campus», we are looking for a committed and solution-oriented personality as a Business Engineer in fixed-term employment until the end of the project in September 2029. In this role, you will actively help shape the digital transformation of teaching operations and make a decisive contribution to the successful introduction of new processes, systems, and ways of working.

Project background
In the «Digital Campus» project, the existing teaching operations landscape is being fundamentally renewed. Numerous historically grown applications and processes are being replaced by an integrated, future-proof solution landscape.

The successful implementation requires not only technological changes but also the continuous further development of processes, roles, and forms of collaboration. As a Business Engineer, you will form the bridge between specialist departments, IT, and the project organization, ensuring that functional requirements are effectively translated into working solutions.

Tasks/Job description
Analysis, design, and optimization of business processes along the entire solution lifecycle
Collection, structuring, and prioritization of functional requirements in close cooperation with specialist departments, external software providers, and internal IT
Development of viable and sustainable solution concepts at the interface between business and technology
Participation in the introduction, further development, and continuous improvement of the Digital Campus solution landscape
Conception, implementation, and further development of workflow automations as well as support in the introduction of AI-supported ways of working and tools
Definition of functional quality and acceptance criteria as well as ensuring the functional quality of solutions
Planning, implementation, and support of testing, functional acceptance, releases, and quality assurance
Ensuring sustainable documentation as well as building and maintaining process, product, and project knowledge
Co-responsibility for the operation, further development, and support of existing applications
Close cooperation with specialist departments, project management, developers, and other stakeholders for the successful implementation of change initiatives

Your profile
Completed university degree in Business Informatics, Computer Science, or a comparable field of study
3-5 years of experience as a Business Engineer, Business Analyst, Requirements Engineer, or in a comparable role
Experience in digitalization, transformation, or IT projects
Practical experience with workflow automation, ideally based on N8N, as well as interest in AI-supported tools and ways of working
Good knowledge of SQL and data analysis is an advantage
Strong analytical skills as well as a structured and solution-oriented way of working
Ability to prepare complex functional and technical contexts in a target-group-oriented manner
High quality awareness as well as experience in testing, functional acceptance, or quality assurance
Strong communication and collaboration skills as well as enjoyment in working with different stakeholder groups
Independent, responsible, and proactive personality with high initiative
Proficient use of Jira, Confluence, and Microsoft 365
Enthusiasm for actively helping to shape the digital transformation and developing sustainable solutions at the interface of business and IT
